A bosom friend and classmate to President Uhuru Kenyatta is on the spot for presiding over a multi-billion scandal under the Devolution and Planning Ministry. Bruce Odhiambo is at the center of disappearance of KSh 180 million from the Youth Enterprise Fund in which he is accused of sacking a whistle-blower.
While sacking the whistle-blower, Parliamentary Investment Committee noted that Bruce Odhiambo copied the sacking letter to embattled former Devolution and Planning CS Anne Waiguru. As the scandal came to light on Wednesday,March 2, twitter users called for the arrest of Bruce Odhiambo in protest of rife corruption in government.
Under #ArrestBruceOdhiambo, Kenyas condemned the ever growing list of senior officials involved in graft while expressing frustration at the slow pace with which such individuals are held accountable. In an interview with Daily Nation in July 2014, Bruce Odhambo narrated his rise from poverty and life under a single parent in Eastleigh. He confesses to being a bosom buddy to Uhuru Kenyatta and traces their friendship to St Marys school Nairobi where they met although Uhuru was a class ahead of him.
The single father of one daughter and a son was appointed by Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2014 to head Youth Enterprise Fund board for three years. But in the period, the fund has on various occasion been embroiled in numerous graft allegations with claims that money meant for youth actually never end up to them The 52-year-old is on the spot for sacking the funds former finance manager Benedict Atavachi yet he is not authorized to do so. Atavachi is the whistle-blower of the scam. Odhiambo then appointed Catherine Namuye and made her the sole signatory to the account from which the KSh 180 million disappeared mysteriously.
